WIP Wednesday: The one year project

Still hand-quilting like crazy to try to finish before Christmas, my Dresden quilt (click to read more about it). It has been very pleasing finally basting this quilt and I have been learning a lot about hand-quilting. But I am still a long way to go... The worse thing is that it weighs a ton, so it is more difficult to handle. And Perle Cotton No 8 is also making my life difficult...any suggestions on needles (I am using a No 9 quilting needle), in case I am doing something wrong?

ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous shots! Where is that? Your quilt is so pretty. I wish I had insight for you about the needles and stitching, but I haven't worked with perle cotton yet.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love dresden plates- making those little wedges is quite satisfying. And I think they look wonderful with hand-quilting (even if it does take forever!).

Very beautiful. I hav never hand quilted before, so have no advice for you. But I'm sure it will turn out lovely and will add to the heirloom feel of this quilt.
ReplyDeleteI haven't quilted with perle cotton before, but I did find quilting my Dresden plate hard because of the extra layers of fabric, especially at the points of each blade. Take your time, and just do the best you can!

Such a beautiful quilt! I've been using Tulip needles for applique lately, but I suspect they are much to thin to quilt with - or fit 8 perle cotton through.
